How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows offer a host of perks for homeowners in Calgary, one being improved energy efficiency. No matter if you’re looking online or with a specialist at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great option if you’re wanting improved efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which provides additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you’ve likely developed a greater leak and the gas has been replaced with moisture. There are two things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s happened:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re finding is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can get ahold of the manufacturer to find out if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions impacting the leak, it may make sense to start researching replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is inhibited it can change your heating and cooling costs.
